How to Transfer OI.Share Camera Settings to a New Phone

OI.Share, the smartphone app from OM Digital Solutions, is not only useful for remote-controlling your camera from your phone — it can also be a great help when you want to configure your camera differently for different shooting situations. OI.Share lets you save multiple camera setting profiles and transfer them back to the camera whenever you need them. If you have got a new phone and did not use your operating system’s migration tool, there is still a way to move your saved settings across. You can also use the same method to share a camera configuration with someone else. I am showing the approach for iOS here. Android phones have the same feature, but the details may differ.

Saving OI.Share Camera Settings

Here is how to save your OI.Share camera settings.

1. Open OI.Share and tap the gear icon in the top right corner. Your camera does not need to be connected, as the settings are stored in OI.Share itself.

2. In the menu that opens, select Camera Management.

3. Tap Camera Settings. This opens the screen showing all your saved camera setting profiles. Select the one you want to transfer to your new phone or share with someone else.

4. After selecting a camera setting, a detail view opens. In the bottom right corner you will find the standard share icon.

5. In the share menu you can choose where to save or send the file — you can attach it directly to an email or send it via a messaging app. Depending on which option you choose, the file will appear in the corresponding location. I saved mine to iCloud, which means I can import it directly from iCloud into OI.Share on my new phone.

Importing OI.Share Camera Settings

To import the file, open the location where you saved or received it. The filename is unfortunately a bit cryptic — it does not use the name you gave the setting profile in OI.Share, but instead shows the camera model and the date the settings were saved. In my case: “OM-1_20220609.set”. Once you have found the file, proceed as follows.

1. Tap the file to open it, then tap the share icon in the bottom left corner. Alternatively, you can long-press the file and select Share from the context menu.

2. In the share destination menu, tap “More” on the far right.

3. In the menu that appears, scroll to the bottom and select OI.Share.

4. The file opens in OI.Share and you will receive a confirmation that the import was successful. You can now transfer your settings to the camera from your new phone, just as you did before.

Bonus Tip: OM Workspace

OM Workspace can also save camera settings. If you have done that, you can of course transfer those files to your phone and import them into OI.Share using the same method described above. The reverse also works: save the file — in my case “OM-1_20220609.set” — to your computer and use OM Workspace to transfer it directly to the camera.

Final Note

I hope this tip was helpful. Leave a comment below and let me know what else you would like to read about — I am happy to cover it on the blog. If you have not installed OI.Share yet, you can find out more about what it can do here. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.
